This weekend we had a small snow storm. Please comment on what you did to help in the community or at home. For example did you shovel or salt the walk ways by your house? Did you help a neighbor? Did you help with the fire trucks on Saturday night? Did you see the fire trucks.

I shoveled my stairs and salted my drive way, thats all I did during the storm. I did not see the firetucks.

What is it that you really want out of life, a successful career, relationship, friends a pet? Be descriptive in your response the more details you give the better.

The main thing that I want from life is to retire early with a lot of money. Obviously to do so, I would need a successful career. I want to just not worry about anything when im in my 50s and just retire to Florida or California. I plan to work very hard until then to make a lot of money and throughout the process I want to drive my dream car and live in my dream house. I also want to have a close family that I can always be open with. I want to be able to put my kids through prestigious colleges without debt so that they can be successful. I want to have a lot of wisdom by the time I am old so I can give advice to my kids and grandkids.

Holidays are upon us what special family traditions do you and your family do? Give details about the tradition and why it is special to you.

On Christmas we have our whole family over. My house gets so crowded because my family is huge. We have enough food to last us two weeks. We eat more on Christmas than thanksgiving. The presents dont compare to the joy I get from having my family over from California and Chicago.

Nelson Mandela passed away yesterday at the age of 95. What did you know about him, his life and his impact on society?

I didn't know much about Nelson Mandela but I do know that he was a civil rights leader in South Africa. He worked against the discrimination of the blacks by the whites in South Africa. He was a a great and noble man.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK. What does this event mean to you? Historically what impact did it have? Can you draw some parallels to September 11th?

This day doesn't mean as much to me as it does to the older generations. It was definately a traumatic  event but 9/11 has much more of an impact on me because it was during my life. I remember it like it was yesterday. Also 9/11 was the cause of much more deaths.

JQ 11/21

Last night was probably your last Business Olympics, let us know how it went, what you liked and what would you change. (Be positive in you comments please) If you did not attend or compete why?

Last night's Business Olympics was okay but everyone hated the topic. I didn't like anything about it really because I couldn't stay for food. If the topic was different I wouldn't really mind it at all. Last year I was confident with presenting because we were very creative and it was OUR PRODUCT.

JQ 11/19

 "Selfie"
I agree that it should be the word of the year because people use it almost every day. It is probably one of the newest most used words in the english language especially among the younger generation. I am kind of indifferent about the word of the year because who really uses a dictionary these days when you have the internet.

JQ 11/15

What is your fondest memory from Highs School? Middle School? Elementary School?

My fondest memory of elementary school is when halloween came and we all went to safe halloween for the elementary school all dressed up in our costumes. My fondest memory of middle school was moving up ceremony because I hated middle school so much. My fondest moment in high school so far is getting my acceptance into BAMA. I can 't wait to get more acceptances.

JQ 11/13

What is your best skill in school? Are you a good test taker, presenter, or do you like to do hands on projects?
What do you do that makes this your best skill? (For example you read a lot.... helps you to do well on tests)
Will these skills help you in college and beyond?

My best skill in school is test taking. I try to study a lot before tests to get good grades. These skills will definately help me in college becasue most of the final grades are based on less than five tests. Testing is definately the biggest part of education and testing is going to be more and more important throughout the years.

JQ 11/12

Yesterday was Veterans Day, what did you do to celebrate? In addition what would you change or give to veterans or military personal that they currently do not have. For example, an monthly salary based on service, free medical insurance, free car etc.

I would definately do more to assist the veterans after they come home from serving. I think that they should recieve more money each month because it is barely enough to buy simple resources to live like food and shelter. They all should recieve free medical service. Also if they are injured from war, Physically or mentally, they should get even more money because they will most likely be unable to work at all so they need a steady support system.

JQ 11/7

As the leaves are turning and the weather is getting colder, what is your favorite thing about fall? List some of the activities you like to do. Be descriptive in your writing.

My favorite thing about fall is the moderate temperature. I like to play football because it is not too cold or hot. I like it more than the moderate temperatures in the spring because I get severe allergies to pollen in spring. I also like to go camping in the fall because there aren't a lot of bugs.

JQ 11/6

Yesterday was election day. Here in the town of Smithtown Patrick Vecchio won as town supervisor. He has been in office for 35 years and is 83 years old. Did you know what platform he was running on? And do you think he will be effective because of the amount of time he has been supervisor or his age? (google if you must for details)
Pat Vecchio has been in office for way to long. He is a republican for town supervisor. The one good thing he did was keep taxes relatively low. Creighton had a better plan to keep business taxes low to keep businesses open on main street because there's so many abandoned shops on main street. The abandoned businesses are problematic because now the government is getting no money in taxes from these places so they're just sitting there.

JQ 10/31

Happy Halloween. What is your first memory of Halloween? How old were you? What was your costume? What did you do ? Compare that to this year's Halloween festivities.

My first memory is when I got scared by a teenager and I cried the whole day. I was around 6 years old. I had to go home early because I was so scared of everyone else in costumes. This year's halloween consists of THE COMMON APP!!!! YAYYY SO FUN.....not really though.

JQ 10/30

In five years from now I will be in college working on getting my masters degree in management. I will hopefully have been involved with at least 2 internships at marketing firms. I hope to be on the dean's list all 4 years and i will work really hard to do so. I will probably move away from long Island when I graduate and work in a smaller city like providence or Boston. I am excited to start my life after school and make my own money.

JQ 10/29

It has been one year since Super Storm Sandy. What do you remember about the storm? What did you do while we were not in school? How long were you without power? etc

I remember the storm like it was yesterday. I remember how cold and depressing it was. We took a drive around all of smithtown the day after and we were so thankful that our house didn't get seriously damaged. People had trees that fell and completely destroyed their houses. Finally after about five days, we got a cheap generator just to power the fridge and a small electric heater. I went 11 days without having power and it was the worst experience ever.

JQ 10/28. Breaking news McDonalds will no longer use Heinz ketchup. Is this a problem? Why are they no longer using Heinz ?

It is a big deal that McDonalds won't use Heinz ketchup because it can completely change the whole taste of their products. The reason that McDonalds says they changed manufacturers is because there was a change in the management of Heinz. This may backfire and lower the sales of McDonalds products because they may not taste as good. Maybe the real reason is because Heinz raised their prices.

JQ 10/ 25 Safe Halloween is today at WEST. Are you participating in it today? , if so what club are you working with and what are you doing? Please also share if you participated in Safe Halloween as a child and what it meant to you then and now.

I am participating in Safe Halloween today for DECA. I will probably help out at my other clubs such as habitat for humanity, red cross club, and the spanish and italian honor societies. I participated in elementary school and it was really fun. Now it is more of a obligation to attend to jsut to set up and stand there.

JQ 10/24

After reading the Newsday article below, provide your opinion on Starbucks' attempt to capture the tea market.

I think that Starbucks' decision to buy out teavana is a very smart decision because it increases their product width and it brings in more revenue. starbucks is increasing their chances to make money. it would be smart to at least brand the starbucks name on the teavana products. Aside from that, starbucks should split their shops into half teavana and half starbucks, This will keep their costs low while having revenue high. Dunkin Donuts will need to come out with a tea line to stay as the leading competition.

My favorite genre of music is country. I like country because it relaxes me and almost every song has a real touching meaning. If I go down south to college i will feel at home because i relate to the music so closely. I just started getting into country last year and im so happy i did because it is so catchy. After all, Country is the most common music in the united states so obviously most of the country can relate.

Journal question: It's your senior year: What does "Spirit Week" mean to you? Did you participate everyday? Would you continue the traditions of Home Coming, and Pep Rally? How would you get everyone involved in "Spirit Week"?

Now that I am a senior, I learned to be much more appreciative of school spirit and "spirit week". Spirit week is a week where students can dress in different themes. I participated every day but the touchdown Thursday because i didn't have a jersey. yes i would continue the tradition of pep rally and home coming. If the sports teams do well, the spirit is much better especially during spirit week.
